Apple continues its attempts to drive home its contribution to various economies in terms of employment, with its latest press release explaining how the components it makes in the U.S. are driving job creation there.
There were two things that came to my mind as to how apple can combat wage inflation.1. Automation: How much will Apple invest in automation and work with their suppliers to reduce dependency on labor, especially eliminating the low to medium skill jobs. However, this is not easy and will take time.2. Diversification of supplier base: Given the need to expand the manufacturing footprint and move to cheaper locations, India is a potential destination for apple with one of the solutions being to manufacture the older iPhones in Bangalore [1]. Yet, developing new suppliers and maintaining quality and scale in India is a whole new challenge.
Growing local EV and battery manufacturing will drive economic activity in Ontario. The province will seek to unlock the economic value of Ontario minerals, including refining and processing, within our domestic electric battery supply chain. The province will also work to foster partnerships between our mining and auto manufacturing sectors for mineral processing and battery component manufacturing.
Ontario has competitive advantages that it can leverage to transform the sector for the next generation of auto manufacturing and technologies. By harnessing these strengths, expertise and assets in auto and tech, Phase 2 will help position these resources to secure new opportunities for job creation and growth.
The government recently issued Decree No. 57/2021/ND-CP (Decree 57), supporting industries related to supply of raw materials, spare parts, and components to manufacturing industries such as electronics and mechanical engineering industries, garment and textile, leather, and footwear industries, hi-tech industries, and the automotive industry.
While this research is more for testing at the moment, the talks could also relate to future manufacturing efforts, including making smaller components that could shrink down the overall collection of sensors to a more manageable size, possibly to one that could be more easily integrated into the \"Apple Car's\" design.
A circular economy favours activities that preserve value in the form of energy, labour, and materials. This means designing for durability, reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling to keep products, components, and materials circulating in the economy. Circular systems make effective use of bio-based materials by encouraging many different uses for them as they cycle between the economy and natural systems.
Remanufacturing and refurbishment are two similar, yet slightly different, processes of restoring value to a product. When a product is remanufactured it is disassembled to the component level and rebuilt (replacing components where necessary) to as-new condition with the same warranty as a new product. Refurbishment is largely a cosmetic process whereby a product is repaired as much as possible, usually without disassembly and the replacement of components. 1e1e36bf2d
